Urgent call

We are in the process of building a new home for our after-school children. 30 to 50 boys and girls from Imizamo Yethu will be safe here in the mornings and afternoons. Unfortunately, during COVID we had to give up our After Care room at the elementary school. The school needed more classrooms for smaller class sizes. We searched and negotiated for a long time and finally found a room in the neighboring Adult Education Center: Not ideal because we have to share the space with other (church) groups. The children have to be quiet because there are other groups in the building at the same time. Also, the room is too small for 35 children. However, we have been diligent and raised money for our own building. We also succeeded in the equally difficult part of the endeavor: finding a piece of land to build on. We were offered a plot on the property of the Adult Education Center. In December, the construction or rather the placement of the containers can begin! It will be a construction of several shipping containers. This is ideal for us since it allows for expansion. Depending on the financial situation, we could for instance add containers to build a ‘2nd floor’.

Who wants to join us and support this great goal? We are collecting money for Ubuntu4Africa Kinder, Jugend & Familienhilfe in Südafrika e.V. and your contribution WILL make a difference, whether you donate a lot or a little. We will start with a part of the container building in November, but our goal is to raise the whole amount and finish the building in one go. For this we need you. As we said, anything helps.

Aftercare

„Hello everyone, my name is Maria, I am 8 years old and I am in the third grade at Hout Bay Primary School. I attend classes there every day until 12.30 pm – for example English, Maths or Xhosa. After school, I visit the Aftercare. There I play with my friends and get help and support with my homework. I think it’s great that I get help with my homework, because unfortunately my mum can’t help me so effectively at home and I would understand less in class. I also get snacks at Aftercare, because I have usually eaten all of my food by then. I am so happy to be able to go to Aftercare every day because it means I don’t have to spend time playing in the street. My parents are not home yet at noon and in our township it is often very dangerous. There are dogs that bite and taxis that drive like maniacs through the small, narrow streets. But I am most afraid of the gangs that roam the township. It can happen that they steal from me – or worse. At Aftercare, I have supervision, even do yoga once a week and spend time with my friends. I’m glad it exists.“

To keep the Aftercare running and to give children like Maria the opportunity to play, learn and have a safe environment, we need your help!

The current Corona situation, which is currently coming to a head yet again in South Africa, also requires support. Our aftercare room at the primary school will be used as a so-called “Escape Room” in the future, which is why we have to get a new container to continue to offer the kids the possibility of aftercare. The costs amount to approx. 70.000 – 100.000 Rand (approx. 4.100 – 5.900 Euro) which we can only afford with a donation.

We are therefore particularly pleased about your support, because this way children like Maria will continue to receive the help and affection they deserve.
