Our projects

South Africa is a beautiful and varied country. The different cultures, the wildlife and the friendliness of the people give the country colour and charm. Cape Town, for many the most beautiful city in the world, is a metropolis with everything your heart desires: nightlife, museums, shopping, Table Mountain, parks, harbours, cinemas, restaurants….
Hout Bay is 20 minutes by car / bus from Cape Town in a picturesque bay. Hout Bay runs from the beach through the valley to Table Mountain. It is contemplative, cosy and close to the beach. You can reach any destination continuously, by taxi, with the MyCiti bus (every 10 minutes to Cape Town), a rented bike or a CityGolf (all affordable to rent).
But Hout Bay is not just an idyll. There is a township there: Imizamo Yethu. IY, an informal settlement, as it is officially called. Officially 3,000 people live here. But it is estimated at 60,000 for real. All projects in which UBUNTU for Africa is active are located here or border on Mandela Park, as the township is also casually called. It was precisely this direct and immediate confrontation of opposites that made it necessary for us to get involved just here.
