First Covid 19 case in IY

It was announced today that we have the first confirmed Covid-19 infection with us! The Councillor for Hout Bay sent a voice message through the community. The important thing for him is that we don’t panic. It is important that we know that Covid-19 is nearby, but also that there is no witch hunt. As with TB and HIV, privacy must be respected. I have received many reactions from people from IY: anxiety and fear. We all knew that the day was coming, but it was a shock when it suddenly came. And that is precisely why we are continuing our efforts to have food packages distributed, food vouchers sent and to keep in touch with people via social media.

UBUNTU for Africa supports the initiative of Sindi, SGB (school administration chair) of both Hout Bay Primary and Silikamva High School, to cook meals for the children every day. She hands out Tuesday and Wednesday at high school on the initiative of the Department of Education Essen. And on the other days, she and 4 other women are now cooking at Hout Bay Primary School. I buy the groceries and the 5 women cook and distribute them. Sindi monitors that each child brings his / her own container and that the appropriate distance is kept in the long row. Today we gave 804 children a meal: rice with vegetable and chicken sauce. Hmmmmm. I bought cake for coffee for the busy kitchen ladies and like many other families they also get a meal package worth 25 euros. In addition, we have already arranged a tea party for the time when the quarantine is over. I feel the need to spoil the ladies who make this possible for all the children.
